Last Saturday a joyous celebration took place at the Council of Members (COMEM) of the European Youth Forum in Brussels: the award ceremony for Yasmine Ouirhrane receiving the young European of the year award 2019.
„Look around you and ask yourself „Who is missing at the table?“ – often times it is youth, migrants and women.“
After receiving the award of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe Yasmine gave an inspiring speech to the audience of multiple youth organizations at COMEM in Brussels.
For many years she has been engaged in projects with young people in underprivileged neighborhoods in France. At the age of 23, she is already an award-winning fellow of the “Women Deliver Young Leader” programme by Women Deliver and she helped to organize the European Youth Forum’s Yo!Fest 2018 in Strasbourg. She impressed the Jury with her outstanding dedication regarding women’s equality and equal participation opportunities for migrants in Europe.
Over the Years the foundation has awarded 21 young people from varied backgrounds and countries. Their dedication and passion for a liberal and diverse Europe is impressing. Every Year a new member becomes part of our network of these young Europeans – the new inspiring leaders of today and tomorrow we all need so crucially right now.
Young representatives from youth organizations across Europe came together this weekend, 12-13 April, for the European Youth Forum’s Council of Members (COMEM) in Brussels. The European Youth Council is our partner for the Young European of the Year Award since 2017.
Taking place over two days, the European Youth Forum’s COMEM is a bi-annual meeting where Members are invited to make decisions on the direction, vision and positions of the Youth Forum. The packed agenda saw delegates raising their voice on many crucial issues facing young people in Europe, from peace and security and non-formal education, to the future of work and what it means to be an European youth representative.
