The world is becoming more complicated, the amount of information is increasing and its distribution is growing rapidly, even beyond known and established channels. Even the public service broadcasters are present with numerous offers on the Internet – but these are also used? Together with the Hertie Innovation College of the non-profit Hertie Foundation, we cordially invite you to this lecture from the series “Democracy and Media” followed by a discussion.

“It is our mission to create diversity of opinion, to contribute to cultural understanding and social integration in our country. This assignment is even more important in a time of massive change in social communication,” said Jan Metzger on the role of public service broadcasters. Although the traditional media offerings of broadcasters still reach a large part of the population, but especially young people use other channels to inform themselves. Although the online offerings of the radios, the third programs and the ARD are constantly growing, do they reach all groups of society?
What is the long-term digital strategy of the ARD and its institutions? What is being done to reach new audiences to become more inclusive? Which innovative mediation concepts are there to fulfill the educational mission and the political transfer of knowledge? How successful is the purely digital offer “Funk”, which is aimed specifically at young people? And how is dealing with hate speech or fake news in the public service appearances in the social media? We would like to discuss these and other questions with you and Jan Metzger.

We look forward to your participation and ask you to register by 25.09. online (see below) or by e-mail.
