    Demokratie leben!

Growing right-wing populism, a brutalization of public and political debate, the fear of a crisis of democracy – for Nico Hofmann, one of the most prominent players in the European film and television world, are the important reasons to get involved in the debate right now, to take a stance and to live them in everyday life: As a citizen, as an artist, but also as the head of the UFA, which, as Germany’s largest producer of film and television formats, decisively influences the media landscape.

In his recently published book, “More Attitude, Please. For which our history commits us” he advocates that every single one of us, but especially film and television with their great influence on large parts of the population, works for an open and sustainable society. This includes dealing with German history, because without a preoccupation with the past there can be no serious design of the future, according to Hofmann. With his films he has worked on numerous current and above all contemporary events of the 20th century for a wide audience, including “Our Mothers, Our Fathers”, “Dutschke”, “The Border”, “Dresden”, “The Airlift” or Film adaptation of Uwe Tellkamp’s “The Tower”.

What influence do film and television producers have on public political debates? What social responsibility lies with each individual? How do I react when I encounter hatred, xenophobia or populism in everyday life? We would like to discuss these and other questions with you and Nico Hofmann.

We look forward to your participation and ask you to register until 07.09. online (see below) or by e-mail.
