How do young people get engagend far from politics? Two examples from European countries show how.
The joint media project of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe and the Stiftung Mercator supported young people who are actively involved in society and become active there, where politics has not (yet) found any answers. The journalists Sira Thierij and Bastian Kaiser accompanied the young people in Germany and Northern Cyprus.

Maraş-Der (Turkish for organization), a project of young people from the region, wants to give young people a perspective. “The government does not care about our problems here. We try to compensate for this with Maraş-Der, “says Ali, one of the leaders of the initiative.
From a small idea to an international organization. Vincent and Hila have done that – he as co-founder, she as a founding member of their initiative. The goal: a world in which everyone has access to higher education. Refugees in particular find it hard to study in their new homeland – bureaucracy and a lack of language skills usually block the way to a better future. At Kiron you can attend English-language lectures free of charge and from anywhere in the world – online. As a rule, they study for two years before applying to a university, where usually up to 60 credits are credited. After two more years, the bachelor is done.
