Call for Applications: Inge Deutschkron Prize 2027

The Inge Deutschkron Prize seeks to honor and preserve the values embodied by Inge Deutschkron – honorary citizen of Berlin, author, and Holocaust survivor – and for which she fought throughout her life. For decades, she educated young people in lectures, readings, and personal conversations about the horrors and suffering of National Socialism. Her aim was to strengthen the fight against antisemitic narratives, to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive, and to counter the resurgence of far-right tendencies.

The prize recognizes projects by young people that continue and build upon the life’s work of Inge Deutschkron.

Who?

With the Inge Deutschkron Prize, we honor projects by young people aged 10 to 25 who live in Berlin. Applications are possible for groups of at least three people. For example, you can apply with your school class, study group, youth group, university group, or sports club.

What?

We are looking for projects that address at least one of the following themes:

• Engagement with the Holocaust and remembrance of those persecuted under National Socialism
• Rescue of persecuted individuals during the Nazi era (silent heroines and heroes)
• Engagement with the fight against right-wing extremism and National Socialism in Berlin after 1945
• Dealing with Nazi perpetrators after 1945 in East and West Berlin (What happened to those who were involved in the deportations or profited from them?)

A project may take the form of videos, comics, graffiti, collages, podcasts, guided tours, photographs, or research projects, for example.

To participate, the following requirements must be met:

• Fully completed application form (including timeline for implementation)
• Relevance of the project in the context of Inge Deutschkron’s commitment with direct reference to at least two of the themes listed above (project outline 2-3 pages or 1-minute video message)
• Proof of participation in a historical-political educational event within the accompanying program of the Inge Deutschkron Prize

How?

Please complete the application form. A full application consists of the completed form, the timeline, and the project outline, which you can upload as one PDF file.

When?

Applications can be submitted between September 1, 2026, and January 15, 2027, via the application form.

Prize:

Two to three projects will be awarded. In addition to project funding of up to €3,500, you will receive professional support in implementing your project. The winning projects will be honored at an official award ceremony (expected in summer 2027) in Berlin.

All participants benefit from an exciting and informative accompanying program. Where possible, all shortlisted projects will be exhibited in Berlin and published on the website of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe.

The Jury:

An interdisciplinary jury will evaluate your submissions after the deadline. The following criteria apply:

• implementation of the theme
• originality of the concept
• depth of research and historical accuracy
• regional or everyday relevance
• a dignified commemoration of Inge Deutschkron and/or other victims of National Socialism
• project costs must not exceed €3,500
