Call for nominations: Young European of the Year 2024

Can you think of somebody who is dedicated to fight for a more pluralistic, and solidary European society? Someone who stands up for justice and anti-discrimination? Then nominate this young person as the Young European of the Year 2024! The deadline for nominations is April 14.

We are looking for young, committed young people between the age of 18 and 26 who make Europe a better place. They should show an outstanding commitment to actively work towards  a pluralistic, open European society of solidarity and/or  fight against injustice and different  forms of discrimination. Through their dedication, they inspire other young people and show leadership and responsibility in their field of engagement.

Last year’s award winner was Mikuláš Lakatoš from the Slovak Republic is an activist and public policy maker, advocating for the rights of Roma, LGBTQ+ communities and other marginalised groups. Working in governmental and non-governmental sectors, he focuses on Roma inclusion, and policymaking in the fields of youth, health, and refugees.

What does the winner receive?

The award is endowed with 5000 €. The Young European of the Year receives the endowment for the financing of an own project or for an internship in a European or international organization. The project has to follow the aims of the Schwarzkopf-Foundation Young Europe and should promote European integration and solidarity. The award winner will also become part of the jury for the Schwarzkopf-Europe Award and profits of being part of a European network. The Schwarzkopf-Foundation will promote visibility for the Awardee’s purposes through events, the large European network, and the support in public relations.

Who can win the award?

To be eligible for nomination, the nominee must be between 18 and 26 years old and active in at least one of the member states of the Council of Europe in the ways described above.

What is required for the nomination?

For the nomination it is required to answer the following question: Why should this person become the Young European of the Year 2024? It is also possible to upload a pdf-document (max. 5 pages) with references regarding the engagement of your nominee (e.g. articles, pictures, websites, screenshots of social media content etc.). Who is part of the jury?

The jury consists of the previous award winners, a representative of the European Commission in Germany, a representative of EY Germany, and the Executive Director of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe.
