Workshop “Digital Active Citizenship in Local Communities”

This workshop by Davit Manukyan seeks to empower young people to exercise active citizenship on digital platforms they are used to. It draws from the assumptions that many young people have the willingness to be more politically active, however, lack capacity to seize the opportunities provided by digital spaces.

What is this workshop about?

This workshop is set out to help reaching the following objectives:

  • Understanding what democracy is and how to participate locally and beyond
  • Empowering youth to exercise their democratic rights and responsibilities online
  • Utilizing the potential provided by digital platforms that young people are used to

Content

The workshop is built like a game with four levels. In the first level, participants will start building a basis for what democracy means and then reflect the social relevance of active citizenship. In the next level, they will identify the key stakeholders and decision makers in their community and analyse where an intervention in social action is needed. At the third level, participants will then get insights into what tools different digital platforms offer for political engagement, based on examples such as the Velvet revolution in Armenia. At the last level, they will come up with digital campaigns to address a relevant issue in their communities.

Duration: 120 minutes

Format: digital & on site

Target group: students and young people aged between 15 and 25
