Culture (and its Politics) in Times of Crisis - Between the Corona Pandemic and the Energy Crisis

In view of multiple current crises, cultural policy is confronted with the question of what role cultural institutions and cultural organisers can and should play in times of such crises, and how cultural policy can support them in this. Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture and Media, will be our guest on this topic on 6 March 2023.

The cultural landscape is currently confronted with a number of crises. Apart from the fact that the past three years of the Corona pandemic have left their mark on many cultural institutions and cultural organisers, the current rise in energy prices – due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine – is presenting many institutions with existential challenges. In addition to these everyday crises, the climate crisis is also advancing, and cultural institutions have to deal with the question of how culture can be made more sustainable in the future.

In view of this, cultural policy is confronted with the question of what role cultural institutions and cultural organisers can and should play in times of such crises, and how cultural policy can support them in this. Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture and Media, will be our guest on this topic on 6 March 2023.

Together with you and Claudia Roth, we want to discuss the following and other questions: What does the term „culture“ encompass? How can the „new start of culture“ after Corona succeed? What problems have arisen in culture as a result of the Corona pandemic? To what extent does the energy crisis also affect culture and what ideas are there to counter this? How can culture be made more sustainable and what can cultural policy contribute here? What could a common European cultural policy look like? What are the possibilities and limits of cultural policy in conveying democracy?

We look forward to your participation. Please register by 03.03.2023.
