Wassermilch & Spitzenwein – A Conversation with Irene Bindel, Eyewitness to the Nazi Regime

We are delighted to invite you to the event “Wassermilch & Spitzenwein – A Conversation with Irene Bindel, Eyewitness to the Nazi Regime” The event will take place on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe in Berlin.

“May I introduce myself? My name is Bindel.”

In the late 1920s, Andrea meets the charming Max while dancing. They fall in love, get married, and eagerly await their first child. Everything seems perfect – until the Nazis come to power. Their marriage is branded a “racial disgrace,” casting a shadow over their happiness, because Max is Jewish.

When Max is imprisoned and never returns, Andrea must find a way to survive alone with her young daughter, Irene. Even in the post-war years, she faces many obstacles – but also unexpected support. Step by step, Andrea and Irene rebuild their lives. Irene travels widely and eventually moves to Canada, yet one wound never heals: the longing for her father.

Irene Bindel, born in Berlin in 1938 to a Christian mother and a Jewish father, will be our guest on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. She will speak about her experiences growing up under the Nazi regime and in post-war Germany.

This year, Irene Bindel published her autobiography under the title “Wassermilch & Spitzenwein. Ein Leben zwischen Schicksal und Zuversicht.”

We look forward to your participation and kindly ask you to register by November 30, 2025.
