International Holocaust Remembrace Day 2025

On the occasion of this year’s International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the foundation was part of a commemorative event at Gleis 17 in Berlin. The gathering was initiated by representatives from major Berlin football clubs and the MANEO initiative, which supports victims of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community and actively works against Antisemitism.

80 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps, Tomáš Sacher, Executive Director of the Foundation, attended the annual commemoration at Gleis 17, one of Berlin’s many Holocaust memorial sites. After a minute’s silence was held, wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial site. Participants included representatives of the Berlin police, the Protestant church, the Israeli embassy, groups of pupils from various schools and other active people from Berlin.

Representatives of participating organisations pointed out the importance of broad alliances to uphold remembrance of the Holocaust and counter prevailing forms of Antisemitism and discrimination – especially in the face of current political developments.

Gleis 17 reminds of the deportations from Berlin to ghettos, concentration and extermination camps which started on 18 October 1941. Every deportation that has left Berlin since then is listed in chronological order on the former railway platform.
