Democracy needs the participation of all – and digital spaces can help

For many people, it is important to experience democracy firsthand and to feel the value of collective action in a diverse society. Technological systems can make societies more democratic, inclusive, and equitable – but they also bring challenges. Zukunft D aims to examine and actively shape these interconnections. By promoting participation and engagement across all segments of society, we can help democracy enter a new phase of renewal. Digital and analogue activities and structures will be interconnected so that they complement and strengthen each other. The project also focuses on groups that have been underrepresented in participatory formats to date. The thematic scope of Zukunft D ranges from democracy and values development, artificial intelligence and data use, to media literacy, digital education, and diversity promotion.

Zukunft D will become a hub for all actors working in these fields in Germany. In the future, interested individuals will be able to register for Zukunft D activities and take part in them. Save the date: Digital Democracy Day 2025

With the Digital Democracy Day on November 6, 2025, Zukunft D will already be hosting a major event this year. In addition to expert inputs and discussion formats on topics related to democracy in a digitalized society, the event will offer many opportunities for networking, co-thinking, and joint development.

Zukunft D is a collaborative network within the federal program “Demokratie leben!” in the program area “Development of a Nationwide Central Infrastructure.”
