Study: Critiques and Visions for a Post-Migrant Society

The new JIK study “Critiques and visions fo a post-migrant society” presents impulses and recommendations from young network members on living together in our post-migrant society. Their perspectives are discussed in the context of the current 2021 coalition agreement and the announced paradigm shift in integration policy. The results can be summarized in four statements, which are explained in more detail in the publication.

The consensus is that Germany is a country of immigration. Nevertheless, we continue to be accompanied by narratives that question this fact and counter-narratives that work against it. Accordingly, ideas about what it means to be a German, to look German or to talk about Germany are also changing. The increasing visibility of diversity is also changing the way we see ourselves as a society: who do we want to be? Who is this “we” that everyone is talking about? And how do we want to live together? Increasingly, the one story about Germany is giving way to the voices of the many, who are now telling their own stories about themselves as Germans and their view of German society.
